Strategies:Making a Difference

TeamHands

Connections Corner plays a unique role within the community, working with the existing network of human service and non-profit agencies, vocational training and educational programs, and other community organizations to help people build resources as they move toward self-sufficiency.

Connections Corner operates with four nationally-recognized strategies. These strategies are designed with two elements in mind:

(1) to benefit individuals and families who are working hard and who are committed to making a difference in their lives

(2) to engage community members from all walks of life to help address issues related to poverty.

Our Strategies

Getting Ahead in a Just-Getting-By World. Connections Corner facilitates Getting Ahead classes to co-investigate issues relatd to poverty, to explore the resources necessary for self-sufficiency, and to examine poverty from an individual and community perspective. Participants finish the class by setting their own goals for self-sufficiency. This class is taught for the community on Wednesday evenings and through Laramie County Community College for college credit. Contact Connections Corner for starting dates.

"Since starting with Connections Corner, I have grown with my family, I have graduated from college, and I’m now working. My peers have been a great support, and the volunteers are wonderful people. It’s been a wonderful experience for me."

Circles. Connections Corner is proud to be a part of the Circles national movement to end poverty. See our Circles page for more information.

Community Training. Connections Corner provides training for community members. Trainings include information on the four causes of poverty, how individual community members can be involved, and the popular Bridges out of Poverty workshop concepts. Connections Corner can help employers learn more about their workforce issues that are directly related to poverty through custom-designed training and ideas centered around improving retention and attendance, helping employees develop job and life skills thereby improving performance, and creating a culture of well-being and support for employers and employees to achieve a win-win situation.
